Who We Are
Mijente is a political home for Latines, Chicanes, and Boricuas who are pro-immigrant and seek racial, economic, gender and climate justice. Through campaigns, cultural work, and digital organizing, Mijente creates power from the ground up, not only to resist, but to transform. With members across the United States and Puerto Rico, Mijente fights for a world in which we can live, breathe, and be free. Mijente does not believe in a single strategy. Instead, Mijente organizes and fights knowing that conflict exists in all spaces, so they have adapted the MPL strategy from Chile known as Sin el Estado, Contra el Estado y Desde el Estado —With, Against, and From the State. This sociopolitical strategy is a pathway that gets us closer to el Buenvivir that we want and deserve.
AgitArte is an anticolonial and queer organization made of working class artists and cultural organizers in Puerto Rico and the diaspora. For more than two decades, they have created spaces for collaborative art, educational programming, and interdisciplinary storytelling that contest systems of oppression and imagine alternative futures. Their practice is deeply tied to base movement and to the stories of those that create community and defend it.
De Aquí Nadie Nos Saca – La Exposición is born from the collaboration between Mijente and AgitArte in this historic moment in which Puerto Rico is under the public eye, seen not only as a tourist destination, but as a territory undergoing struggle, creativity and resistance. Together with more than 25 local organizations and artists, we have created a space where art and politics meet, where music and memory intertwine, and where we firmly declare: this archipelago is not for sale - it belongs to those who fight for it. And that is why we say De Aquí Nadie NOS Saca.
